Place-Based Learning – Supporting Aboriginal Ways of Knowing/Doing
BC’s redesigned curriculum provides teachers with great flexibility in creating learning environments that are relevant, engaging, and not necessarily classroom-based. Superintendent’s Task Force on Student SafetyThe final recommendations set out by the Superintendent’s Task Force on Safety are ready to be implemented throughout the District. All members of the school district community, including parents and students, will be trained and informed on identifying positive and healthy relationships and addressing sexual misconduct as it occurs. Supportive materials are being developed and will be ready for distribution in September 2019. This work will be supported by a new .4 FTE healthy relationships coordinator.

School Fees Report
The revised curriculum for grades 11 and 12 has led to some changes in the course fee structure. Many courses were renamed, and some were eliminated. Overall, there was a fee reduction for six courses with the delisting of outdated Board Authority Authorized courses. Some fees have increased to reflect the rising cost of supplies, including fees for Foods, Woodwork and Photography courses.

Mental Health Literacy Strategy
The Action Plan submitted to the Ministry of Education on March 15, 2019, received a one-time grant of $31,000 to support mental health programming in schools. This funding is a catalyst for an integrated and sustainable mental health infrastructure in the District that will include support for an additional school and family consultant.

2019 - 2020 Budget
Continuing enrolment growth and increased funding for student support from the Ministry of Education has put SD73 in a position to better meet the District’s priorities to improve educational outcomes for all students. The board approved the annual budget bylaw for a total budget (including special purpose and capital funds) for $181,902,362. Read more
